RE: Pre World Cup Friendlies
Quote from MJP: Have been to Ruimsig before; it has one of the biggeest informal settlements in Johannesburg; have no idea where Ruimsig Stadium is though?
its also known as the Roodepoort Stadium in Ruimsig see links below http://www.roodepoortinfo.co.za/site_about.php http://maps.google.com.au/maps/place?hl=en&rlz=1W1TSHN_en&oq=&gs_rfai=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=Ruimsig+Athletics+stadium+Roodepoort&fb=1&gl=au&hq=Roodepoort+Athletics+Stadium&hnear=Roodepoort+Athletics+Stadium&cid=15278195933763978667

RE: Pre World Cup Friendlies

RE: Pre World Cup Friendlies
I just read this article and was about to post it and missed the above posts. 3 warm-up matches for us, 6 for NZ. Sort it out FFA! --------------------- All Whites get final World Cup tune up against Chile Posted: 23 Mar 2010 10:59 AM PDT New Zealand’s soccer World Cup preparations will wind up with a friendly against Chile in South Africa two days before the finals start. The NZFA announced on Tuesday the teams will meet behind closed doors on June 9 at Nelspruit, where Chile will be based during the June 11-July 11 finals. New Zealand’s lead-in to the World Cup began earlier this month when they met Mexico in Pasadena in California, losing 0-2 after holding the Mexicans scoreless in the the first half. Their other confirmed build-up matches are against Mexico in Los Angeles on March 3, Australia in Melbourne on May 24, Serbia in Klagenfurt, Austria, on May 30, and Slovenia in Maribor on June 4. Herbert has planned a camp in Auckland from April 28-May 10 for his Australasian-based players, while the full squad — including British-based stars like Ryan Nelsen, Chris Killen and Rory Fallon — will assemble in New Zealand in mid-May at the end of their club commitments. The All Whites then clash with Australia for the first time in five years in Melbourne on May 24 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. After that match, the All Whites head to Europe and then on to South Africa. They open their World Cup campaign against Slovakia in Rustenburg on June 15. Their remaining pool matches are against defending champions Italy on June 20 in Nelspruit, then Paraguay on June 24 in Polokwane. Chile meet Honduras on June 16 in their opening Group H match. They also face favourites Spain and Switzerland. Chile, coached by Marcelo Bielsa, had games against North Korea and Costa Rica on March 3 cancelled after February’s devastating earthquake. Two friendlies have been since scheduled against Venezuela in late March 31, with further friendlies confirmed away to Mexico on May 16 and at home to Israel in late May.

RE: Pre World Cup Friendlies
I'm not concerned about the number of matches, I think 3 is fine, rather the type of opposition. Given we have to play Ghana, surely we could have organised a match with an African nation in Africa.

RE: Pre World Cup Friendlies
i think the ffa have a problem because they had the contract with the mcg to have a game there. Imagine how much easier it would have been for the socceroos to get decent opponents in europe. They could have played against teams like Croatia or Austria

Quote from Pablo B: (1 June still looks highly likely for first game also at the same stadium in Jo'burg - details will follow)
Why is this match taking so long to confirm? It's now only 2 months away.

the game is all but locked in and close to sign off - opposing team FA has held things up - confirmation soon for 1 June patience people - e.g. there are very many other warm up games involving other qualified nations inc some big guns that are yet to be finalised for late May/early June

RE: Pre World Cup Friendlies
As far as I'm aware Denmark-Pretoria June 1 USA-Joburb-June 5 Would have thought the USA match would be at St Stithians as the Socceroos won't be moving out of Sandton till about then, although Ruimsig seems more capable of catering for the thousands that would want to attend. Should have been at Orlando
