Friendly v Denmark in beautiful Copenhagen

Hey,

I am a long-time football tragic who has managed a handful of trips from Newcastle to Sydney to watch the Socceroos play over the last few years (by far the best was Uruguay 2005), and six months ago I moved to Sweden with my wife to start a family. I just got the news that we've teed-up a friendly with the Danes in Copenhagen for June 2012, and I'm already beside myself with excitement; I only live two hours from Copenhagen by train, and so I've just joined the G&G army so I can try and get into the thick of it for the match. I wanna get-in on the pre-match drinks, the walk to the ground, sing my lungs out in the bays, and go celebrate on the town after the match. Please keep me posted on any info for the match as it develops (e.g. ticket sale date, prices, meeting place/pubs and route as soon as we get it organised and I'm there). And if you need any help with organising in the lead-up, I'm happy to help :-)

Giddy as a schoolgirl,

Football Mick

Excellent, so are you offering your place for all the boys to crash at Mick?  hahaha

Heard about this the other day, apparrently flights to Copenhagen are £60 return from Gatwick, plus it is on a Saturday, so it would be rude not to make a weekend of it and chase some of those *cough* fine *cough* Danish girls!

I'll not be missing this one.  Flights from Glasgow are £150 for a return via the good people at KLM.  Sorted.

Never been to Copenhagen, so might stay on for a few days to take in some culture and shit.

 Ooooh yes!

Will treat the Mrs over the coming weeks then hit her with the news I'm Copenhagen bound.  Will also have to remortgage the house to afford the beer but it will be worth it!

RE:Friendly v Denmark in beautiful Copenhagen

Hey Gents,

Just booked my accommodation last week at a top little backpackers in the centre of town, and I got the word that our game with the Danes in Copenhagen coincides with something called 'Distortion Denmark,' which I'm told is one of the best electronic music festivals in Europe. I thought I'd share this with you all as it affects us in two ways:

1) The smoking-hot Danish stunners are going to be out in force, celebrating the beginning of summer and partying the night away. I doubt we could've picked a better time to be in Copenhagen!

2) Apparently this festival is pretty popular, so accomm can book out early. As such, thought it would be a good idea to give you all the heads up so you can sort-out your accomm sooner rather than later.

Still not sure how ticketing works, so I'd really appreciate it if someone could fill me in, cos like I said, I'd love to be right in the thick of it with the G&G Army for the game. If anyone wants suggestions about where to stay, I can recommend the place we're I'm booked if you like, as I've been there before and it's cheap, very central, and like all good backpackers should, it has its own bar.

Not sure who's been to Copenhagen before, but I can tell you it is the city on wheels, so BYO pushy!

PS Muz, Newcastle is a small place, and I know who you are already. I was a referee and remember having some of your games at Azzurri and Magic, plus I used to live with one of your mates from uni I think.

Good news.

Ok what accom did you book, I've looked at a couple, they look central, cheap and like they will be a good lauh.

I'll let you know once tickets are announced.

Brilliant looks like pre match venue is sorted then!

Nice one.  I'm all over that like a bad suit.  Booked my flights today, get my match ticket on Monday then can start saving cash for the frankly obscene price of beer over there.

Yep, tickets sorted here as well.

Haven't even thought of accommodation yet but will be interested to hear any suggestions.  I'll probably just look for a hotel in the city centre.  Something easily staggerable from some decent bars preferably.

RE:Friendly v Denmark in beautiful Copenhagen

Hey gents,

My apologies for being a bit slack and not getting back sooner. Got my tickets for the game today too, so I'm feeling it now.

Anyway, the name of the place I'm staying at with my brother is the Generator Hostel. I'm not a local, but I'd say the touristy heart of Copenhagen is Nyhaven, and the Generator is barely 5mins walk from there. Being a touristy spot it is a bit pricey for food and drinks around there, but I guess that's what the hostel bar is for. I can't remember how much I paid for my bed, but it's not a bank breaker so you can check it out. The Hostel is also about 15-20mins walk from the ground (I think), or one stop (~5mins) on the train/subway.

Happy to follow the word of the saffa-based expat on the good pubs and bars for the migration to the ground, so I guess that's all the advice I've got. Only other thing I was curious about--can we get some numbers together for a tour of the Carlsberg brewery on the Friday before the game? I've heard it's better than a trip to Willy Wonka's!

RE:Friendly v Denmark in beautiful Copenhagen

A quick bit of info on the Carlsberg brewery tour...

 * Open 10am-5pm;

* They suggest a tour takes an hour and a half, so if anyone is right into their brewing they can budget for about that much time, and if anyone gets bored they can just head to the bar;

* They can do group discounts for groups of more than 15 people, but given that the cost is only 70DKK (about $12AUD) and that includes two beers, I think we can afford to save ourselves the headache and just organise to meet at a set-time rather than go through the hassle of arranging a group.

That's about it. For those who are interested, how do you want to organise this? I'm reluctant to put contact details on here, so what if we just use F'b to set everything up? If you're interested in getting-in on the tour, just add me--Michael Amloh.

Cheers lads, look forward to seeing you all in June!

Alright DannyAllsopp, is it spare match tickets that you're after?  If so, it's www.billetnet.dk to buy tickets.  Worked out about £20.00 each I think.  Should still be plenty available in the away end (section C2).

I booked 4 tickets in C2 a few days ago, was plenty still available in that area.

Heading down from Stockholm as well, don't mention the ice hockey result to the Danes

RE:Friendly v Denmark in beautiful Copenhagen

hi guys, im back in copenhagen, the game is being played mid summer we should have the meet up in faelledparken which is opposite the ground (parken) it's a big  park, bbq's and many nice ladies, there is a bar there (white povillion) or just BYO. so meet up at faellenparken next to the 3 black sculptures? or if its shit weather CAFEEN FUNCKE which is only a 10 min walk down the road, nice little bar in Norrebro.

for the guys that are coming in from the UK, distortion its massive many street party's all over copenhagen dont miss it. also Norrebro has many bars and its a great hip area. Vesterbro has all the strip clubs, hookers, and drugs, and dont miss out on going to my secound home christiania  (woodstock bar) fun starts after 10pm.

any other questions on KBH happy to answer.

 Hey Lucke, sounds great!

Always keen for BBQ´s and chicks;) How far away is Faelledparken from the Stadium and from DansHostel City? Alot of the army are staying in that part. hostel.

Would also be great to meet up on friday too, alot of us arrive a day earlier...

Was also thinking of going to distortion. Is it worth it? The pics look great..
