Biggest A-League Rivalry?
Seeing there is currently no really a local derby in the A-League (except maybe Newcastle v Central Coast), which two teams can lay claim to having the biggest A-League rivalry? Some people say Adelaide v Sydney, but for me, it is Melbourne v Sydney. Admittedly, historically, there is more to the Melbourne v Sydney rivalry than just football. But in terms of any code of footy, our football is the only one where the playing field in level. So in your opinion, which two teams have the biggest rivalry?

what rivalry? ;) In all seriousness... Melbourne v Sydney is 'El Superclasico'. Although Melbourne v Adelaide is another one with history outside of football.

RE: Biggest A-League Rivalry?
Maybe this will be better answered in a couple of weeks time when Melbourne has played both teams again. However, I think that things like the Muscat-Kosmina incident can add to a rivalry between two teams, but ultimately, the games themselves have to be good for any sort of real rivalry to develop. I would go for Sydney & Melbourne, simply because the games have been very attacking, big crowds, a history beyond football and that they are the top 2 teams in the league!

Apparently it is a non-existent rivalry though

RE: Biggest A-League Rivalry?
it all depends. as a melbourne supporter, the adelaide and sydney games are the ones that i look forward to the most. i think i read this on the mv.net forum, so i'm not going to take any credit for it... melbourne likes beating sydney but hates losing to adelaide. i reckon that sums it up nicely.

Geographically Newcastle v Central Coast is the derby, however the biggest match on the A-League calendar is the Sydney v Melbourne match and most of it is due to factors other than football!

will do :D 30k tickets sold for the game at the moment, but this does include 10k members, still got a week to build up the game, plus walk ups... I think we will get a record crowd for a football game in Australia The rain or any potential of it won't be a problem obviously

yeah we hate sydney just coz they're sydney... some of the people there are actually quite nice (eg trish, berta, janine, supermario, jf, etc etc)... but from melbourne's perspective, the rivalry with adelaide is pure hatred.

my little borther got pushed out wrong exit by police. was chased through town by barrell supporters. asked for a lift to the supoprters bus from police, was refused...tehn got chased by a carload..which he proceeded to kick the headlights in as they bottled his mate...finally got to the bus... This is not an attcak on adelaide supporters as a whole as i realise it would have been a small minority....but those minority are scum.... Long Live the Victory!

RE: Biggest A-League Rivalry?
No contest Melbourne v Adelaide... Daylight Melbourne v Sydney I think the players would agree as well. EDIT: I think has alot to do with the fact the states have hated each other in other sporting codes... Also Adelaide have been our bogey side and haven't won to many games. Unlike Sydney whom we beat regularly
