FIFA confirms simultaneous kick-offs
Wednesday, 01 February 2012

FIFA has confirmed that there will be simultaneous kick-off times for the final matchday in Groups B, D and E of the third round of Asian qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Concerns were raised regarding the weather in the Gulf region but after conducting the necessary organisational and climatic checks, the global game's governing body deemed that temperatures were not excessive and therefore simultaneous kick-offs will be applied for matches when the situation in the same group has not been decided, in accordance with the provisions laid down in Article 18, Paragraph 10 of the regulations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

The kick-off times for the relevant fixtures on February 29 are as follows:

Group B

Korea Republic v Kuwait: 2100hrs

UAE v Lebanon: 1600hrs

Group D

Australia v Saudi Arabia: 2130hrs

Oman v Thailand: 1430hrs

Group E

Iran v Qatar: 1700hrs

Bahrain v Indonesia: 1630hrs

There could be a compromise agreement e.g. where Saudi game kicks off at 8-30pm and Oman vs Thailand at 1-30pm local time, so still simultaneous - Muscat at this time of year is not hot, so would not disadvantage either side.

RE:Saudi Arabia - Home, Feb 29th

The start time for Qantas Socceroos vs Saudi Arabia at AAMI Park, Melbourne on Wed 29 Feb has changed again.

The revised kick off time is 8.30pm and gates will open at 6.30pm.

This change was made by the FIFA World Cup Organising Committee to enable a simultaneous kick off with the Oman vs Thailand match to start at 1-30pm local time in Muscat.
