Expectations that Everton midfielder Tim Cahill would cause a headache for Premier League opponents Aston Villa on Saturday were not realised with the Australian failing to run on at Goodison Park.

A foot injury that sidelined Cahill for the Socceroos' 2-1 victory over Germany on Tuesday is suspected to have kept the 31-year-old off the field for his club's 2-2 draw in Saturday's middle-of-the-table clash.

Despite a cloud hanging over Cahill's appearance, British bookmakers on Friday had him as their 4-1 favourite as the match's first goal-scorer, according to Birmingham Mail.net.

Cahill, who has not hit the back of the net in his last seven matches, would have been well positioned to break his scoring drought, with a strong record of four goals and two assists in Everton's past six matches with Villa.
