Adam Federici’s Reading head to Cardiff on Wednesday morning (AEST) needing only one goal to move a win away from the English Premier League. After holding the Welsh side to a nil-all draw at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday morning, Reading are only 90 minutes away from a trip to Wembley.

Speaking exclusively to ggarmy.com, Federici unsurprisingly revealed he was excited about the prospect of playing in the Premier League.

“Of course. I got a taste of it last time Reading was in the Premier League, and I know what it’s about. It’s the most watched league in the world, and everything that comes with that is fantastic and it just brings a buzz to the stadium and the town. I’ve seen what it can do.”

However before The Royals can plot how to beat either Swansea City or Nottingham Forest in London, the side must defeat a good quality Cardiff team. When asked about their chances, Federici accepted his side will need to be on form to progress past the semi-final of the Championship playoff.

“We’re obviously not the favourites to go through, we’re the underdogs, but I think we like to be the underdogs in these sorts of situations. But Cardiff has tremendous talent right through their team, and has a few big name players, so it’s going to be a very tough game.”

However, with only one win in their last five, Cardiff have had a rough last month, and the Bluebirds slip in momentum could hand Reading the advantage. Federici’s team can also look to their away record for comfort, as the side finished the regular season with the fifth best record away from home.

With Reading on the verge of the Premier League, another Socceroo could be stepping into arguably the biggest league in the world. And as Federici reminds us, that has always been his goal.

“I came over here to play in the Premier League so hopefully we can make it there this season.”
