Steph Catley and Hayley Raso both achieved key milestones on their road to recovery ahead of the World Cup, while Sam Kerr netted another two goals in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Steph Catley made her return from a long-term calf injury but could only play 45 minutes as Reign FC defeated Sky Blue 2-1.

Catley started but was replaced at half-time in the win, while Lydia Williams was an unused substitute.

Speaking after the game, Catley said: “[It] felt amazing. It’s been a long time coming, this rehab in particular has been a difficult one, missing these games for Reign and then with the World Cup so close, it’s been really tough.

“I felt really, really good and 45 minutes was my max today, but I would have loved to have played more, but that’s how it it is.

“I’ve got to be careful and listen to my body.”

Elise Kellond-Knight was absent due to a hamstring injury too.

Sam Kerr continued her rich scoring form with the match-winning double in Chicago Red Stars’ 2-1 win away to Houston Dash.

Clare Polkinghorne put in a full shift for the Dash, while Kyah Simon returned to action after a minor injury last weekend as a 54th minute substitute.

But it was Kerr who stole the show, opening the scoring in the eighth minute after rounding the keeper and shooting past the wrong-footed Polkinghorne on the line.

Five minutes later Kerr worked a one-two and beat off Polkinghorne’s challenge before breaking forward and firing in the second.

Hayley Raso was back on the bench for Portland Thorns in their 3-1 loss away to Washington Spirit.

Chloe Logarzo continued her return from injury as well, putting in a full shift for the Spirit, while Amy Harrison started and played 70 minutes.

Raso didn’t enter the fray, while her Thorns’ teammates Ellie Carpenter and Caitlin Foord both played full games, with the latter scoring.

Foord didn’t know much about her goal as Ana Crnogorcevic whipped a ball in centrally, hitting the Matilda and looping in for 2-1.

In the Norwegian Toppserien on Sunday, Tameka Yallop’s Klepp drew 0-0 away to Kolbotn. Yallop played the full 90 minutes.
