Matildas Central: Kerr & Simon goals, Harrison assist

Kyah Simon, Sam Kerr and Indiah-Paige Riley all hit the scoresheet around Europe, while Caitlin Foord and Amy Harrison both provided assists in a busy weekend of Matildas action abroad.

Sam Kerr got on the scoresheet as Chelsea claimed an important 3-1 win over Manchester City in the English Women’s Super League on Sunday.

Kerr made it 2-0 with a close-range side-footed finish from Fran Kirby’s 57th minute cutback.

The Matildas skipper has had a slow start to life at Chelsea but has now scored three goals for the Blues this season.

Earlier in the second half, Kerr headed over from a Kirby cross when found unmarked while she also volleyed well wide of the target.

Caitlin Foord got an assist as Arsenal won 5-0 away to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

Foord, who started and played 79 minutes, went on a good run down the right flank and laid off the pass for Danielle van de Donk’s 36th minute goal to make it 2-0.

Steph Catley was absent again due to a calf injury.

Mackenzie Arnold and Emily van Egmond both played full games as West Ham United went down 3-1 at Hayley Raso’s Everton on Sunday.

Raso, who has been in good form lately, was a 61st minute substitute for the Toffees.

Alanna Kennedy, who scored in midweek, started and played 74 minutes as Tottenham lost 1-0 at home to Manchester United on Saturday.

Kyah Simon scored her first goal for PSV Eindhoven on Friday night as they eased past PEC Zwolle 5-2 in the Dutch Eredivisie Women.

After conceding early, Matilda Amy Harrison, who started and played 85 minutes, set up the equalizer for Joelle Smits on 34 minutes.

Simon, who put in a full shift, made it 2-1 in the 37th minute with a header from a corner.

PSV conceded again before retaking the lead, when Simon’s header rebounded to Julie Biesmans to convert.

Beattie Goad played a full game as SV Meppen lost 3-1 to SGS Essen in the German Frauen Bundesliga on Sunday.

Alex Chidiac was an 81st minute sub as Atletico Madrid drew 1-1 with Granadilla Tenerife in the Spanish Feminina Division on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Jenna McCormick was absent as Real Betis lost 2-1 to Santa Teresa, while Aivi Luik put in a full shift as Sevilla went down 2-0 to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

Jacynta Galabadaarachchi made her debut start for Napoli and played 66 minutes in a 1-0 loss at Florentia in the Italian Serie A Women on Sunday.

Indiah-Paige Riley came off the bench to score a goal as Fortuna Hjorring won 5-2 over Hannah Bacon’s AGF in the Danish Elitedivisionen on Saturday.

Riley was a half-time sub and scored in the 90th minute, while Bacon got five minutes off the bench.

Emily Gielnik played a full game as Vittsjo won 3-2 over Umea in the Swedish Damallsvenskan on Friday night.

Ellie Carpenter put in a full shift at right-back as Olympique Lyon continued their perfect start to the French Feminine Division season on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Dijon.

Mary Fowler started and played 75 minutes but didn’t score as Montpellier lost 4-0 at Paris Saint Germain in the French Feminine Division on Saturday.

Emma Checker was absent as Fleury 91 went down 6-1 to Bordeaux, while Laura Brock (nee Alleway) put in a full shift as Guingamp won 3-0 over Soyaux.
