The controversial 2022 World Cup should be played in winter instead of at the height of summer, FIFA vice president Prince Ali bin Al Hussein said Thursday.

The Jordanian told the German newspaper Tagesspiegel that he thinks it is better to play in winter. "But that is something the hosts would have to decide."

He does not believe it would be necessary to change the European footballing time-table. "Countries already have a winter break."

That, however, is not the case everywhere. In England there is virtually no break, while in Spain the league also only shuts down for two weeks.

The Bundesliga, on the other hand, always has a five-week break, which would fit into the four week World Cup.
