There were plenty of talking points in pre-season friendlies with Scott McDonald on the scoresheet, while Tim Cahill came close and Chris Herd provided a fantastic assist.
Firstly in club friendly action, Scott McDonald hit an encouraging second-half double as Middlesbrough romped to a 7-3 victory against Falkirk.
McDonald, who came off the bench at half-time alongside fellow Aussie Rhys Williams, scored Boro's final two goals of the game. Firstly the former Celtic man side footed home from six yards, before driving home a nice left-foot strike for the seventh.
Williams, meanwhile, conceded a penalty after misplacing a pass and committing a foul from the resultant break.
Tim Cahill played the first half as Everton drew 1-1 with Motherwell. Cahill produced a good left-wing cross on 10 minutes which Leon Osman headed over the bar.
The Australian also had a chance of his own on 30 minutes, when his drive was pushed past the post by Well keeper Darren Randolph, while shortly after he headed over from Osman's corner.
Chris Herd provided the assist for Gabriel Agbonlahor's winner in Aston Villa's 1-0 triumph over Chicago Fire on Saturday. Herd produced a fantastic first-half cross for Agbonlahor to convert, before being replaced at the break.
Fellow Aussie Brett Holman was a 70th-minute substitute and almost got on the scoresheet himself after working a neat one-two with Barry Bannan, before seeing his curling effort saved.
Elsewhere, Brad Jones played the first half as Liverpool drew 1-1 with Toronto FC, while Jason Davidson didn't play as Heracles lost 2-0 at MSV Duisburg.
In Germany, Mustafa Amini, Mitchell Langerak and Nikita Rukavytsya all missed out as Borussia Dortmund defeated Nurnberg 4-2, while Hertha BSC got past Norwich 3-2 respectively.
In China's Super League on Sunday, Rostyn Griffiths was part of history as Didier Drogba made his Shanghai Shenhua debut as a half-time substitute in a 1-1 draw away to Guangzhou R&F.
Griffiths, who started and played 88 minutes in the game, was influential in his usual shielding midfield role.
The Aussie started a first-half move where he broke down play in his own half before releasing Yakubu Aiyegbeni who found Davi but he fired wide.
Drogba came off the bench, where he was seated alongside Aussie striker Joel Griffiths (who didn't play), to help make it 1-1 in the second half.
However, Griffiths almost set up an 82nd-minute winner when his fine ball forward played in Zhang Yuan but fired high and wide.
Elsewhere, Dino Djulbic played a full game as Guizhou Renhe continued their title challenge with a 3-1 victory over Shanghai Shenxin where they scored two stunning late goals despite being down to 10 men.
Earlier, Djulbic was caught out and outjumped by Johnny for a fifth-minute opener for Shenxin, but Guizhou responded in excellent fashion.
Milan Susak also had his hands with CSL topscorer Cristian Danalache scoring twice as Tianjin Teda went down 3-2 to second-placed Jiangsu Sainty. Susak put in a full shift.
Daniel Mullen played a full game as Dalian Aerbin crushed Shandong Luneng 5-2 on Saturday. Mullen wasn't at fault for either goals; one a penalty, one a goalkeeping error.
On the opening weekend of the new Russian Premier League season on Saturday, Luke Wilkshire played a full game at right-back as Dinamo Moscow started the campaign with a disappointing 1-0 defeat away to Volga.
On the opening day of the Austrian Bundesliga season on Saturday, James Holland's Austria Vienna had their clash away to Wolfsberger AC postponed as heavy rains made the newly-promoted club's pitch unplayable.
In Denmark's Superliga on Sunday, Brent McGrath wasn't in the Brondby squad which lost 2-1 away to AaB.
In Croatia's Prva HNL on Sunday, Steve Lustica played the first half in Hajduk Split's goalless draw away to Istra 1961.
In Korea's K-League, Robbie Cornthwaite was the only Aussie in action despite our growing brigade in the Land of the Morning Calm. And it wasn't a day to remember for Cornthwaite, playing a full game, as Chunnam Dragons were hammered 6-0 by Adrian Madaschi's Jeju United. Madaschi remains out with a shoulder injury, while Matt Simon wasn't in the Chunnam squad.
Elsewhere, Matt McKay failed to return from injury as Busan I'Park slumped to a 6-0 defeat away to FC Seoul, while Nathan Burns (injury) remains out for Incheon United as they lost 2-1 at Pohang Steelers.
Eddy Bosnar was left out of the Suwon Bluewings side which ended their poor run of conceding 11 goals in three games, keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw away to Daegu.
Finally in Korea, there was no debut for Alex Wilkinson as he wasn't in the Jeonbuk Motors squad for their 2-1 triumph over Gangwon on Sunday.
