Terry Antonis was sent off in the K League season opener while Adam Taggart drew a blank and Jason Davidson impressed as his side started with a big win.

On Friday in the Korean K League season opener, Adam Taggart and Terry Antonis both started as Suwon Bluewings conceded late to lose 1-0 to champions Jeonbuk Motors.

Suwon weren’t helped when Antonis received a straight red card in the 75th minute for a high sliding challenge on Son Jun-Ho. The dismissal was Antonis’ first of his professional career.

Reigning K League top scorer Taggart failed to fire in attack, under-hitting a first-half chance from range, while he also spurned his shot when in one-on-one early, although he was offside.

Taggart was replaced in the 76th minute, shortly after Antonis received his marching orders.

Socceroo Jason Davidson put in an enterprising full shift as Ulsan Hyunai made a statement to start the season with a 4-0 rout of Sangju Sangmu on Saturday.

Davidson, who picked up an 89th minute yellow card for a handball, played the entire game at left-back and fired a shot over the bar in the 49th minute.

The Aussie made a more meaningful contribution two minutes later when his throughball down the left flank released Junior Negrao who centered for Lee Sang-Heon to convert from close range.

He was also involved in the build-up on the left side for Ulsan’s fourth goal, as Yoon Bit-Garam fired home from outside the box in the 75th minute.

Ex-Melbourne Victory midfielder Rashid Mahazi played a full game as Incheon United picked up a handy 0-0 draw with Daegu FC to start the season on Saturday.

On Sunday, Brandon O’Neill didn't debut as he remained an unused sub as Pohang Steelers won 2-0 over newly promoted Busan I’Park.

In the K League 2 on Saturday, Connor Chapman missed Daejeon Hana Citizen’s 2-1 win at Suwon FC due to injury.

On Sunday, Nick Ansell was also absent as Gyeongnam FC drew 0-0 with his former club Chunnam Dragons.
