Socceroos Central: Boyle assist, Langerak clean sheet

Socceroo Martin Boyle and Cameron Burgess both got assists in British football over the international break on Saturday, while Mitch Langerak kept a clean sheet in Japan.

Martin Boyle put in a full 90 minutes and grabbed a crucial assist as Hibernian sneaked past Cove Rangers 2-1 in the Scottish League Cup group stage on Saturday.

Boyle got a 7/10 rating from Edinburgh Live who wrote: “A lot better in the second period as his pace began to trouble Cove.”

The Socceroo provided an early cross which Christian Doidge headed against the crossbar.

But Boyle’s vital assist came in the 49th minute when he pulled back for Jamie Gullan to tap into an empty net.

Young Aussie keeper Aaron Lennox put in a full shift as Montrose lost 3-1 at Arbroath, while William Bainham was a 70th minute sub as Queen’s Park lost 2-0 at Partick Thistle.

Callum Elder put in a full shift at left-back as Hull City lost 4-1 to Fleetwood Town in England's League One on Saturday.

The Hull Daily Mail gave Elder a 3/10 rating and wrote: "Caught out of position badly for the first Fleetwood goal.

"Struggled to keep tabs on the lively Harvey Saunders, who will no doubt feature in a bad dream or two. Night went from bad to worse."

Cameron Burgess put in a full shift and got an assist as Accrington Stanley edged Rochdale 2-1 on Saturday.

Burgess laid off a long diagonal pass for Joe Pritchard whose cross sneaked in at the far post for the equalizer in the 64th minute.

Ryan Edwards played a full game as Burton Albion lost 2-0 at Plymouth, while Ryan Williams was an 87th minute sub as Portsmouth won 2-1 over MK Dons.

Mitch Langerak played a full game and kept a clean sheet as Nagoya Grampus got past Cerezo Osaka in the Japanese J.League on Saturday.

Thomas Deng was out suspended as Urawa Reds won 1-0 at Sagan Tosu.

Connor Chapman played a full game as fifth-placed Daejeon Hana Citizen lost 1-0 to leaders Suwon FC in the Korean K2 League on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Nick Ansell was absent as Gyeongnam won 1-0 over Anyang on Saturday.

In the MLS, Brad Smith was a 64th minute substitute as Seattle Sounders won 2-1 over Real Salt Lake on Friday (Australian time).

On Monday (Australian time), Andy Rose was out suspended as Vancouver Whitecaps edged Real Salt Lake 2-1.

In transfer news, Aziz Behich landed a loan deal to join Turkish top flight strugglers Kayserispor from champions Istanbul Basaksehir where he was struggling for game-time.

Adelaide United trio Riley McGree (Charlton loan to Birmingham City), Lachlan Brook (Brentford) and Nikola Mileusnic (Randers) have all made moves abroad too.
