Fringe Socceroo Ajdin Hrustic has been criticised after he was sent off in FC Groningen’s 3-1 loss in the Dutch Eredivisie to AZ Alkmaar on Sunday.

Hrustic received his second yellow card in the 77th minute for an off-the-ball incident with AZ’s Albert Gudmundsson.

The incident occurred as the ball was being returned following AZ’s second goal to make it 2-1, with Hrustic earning his second booking.

He had been booked in first-half stoppage time after kicking a water bottle and his boss Danny Buijs bemoaned his lack of discipline.

“Ajdin Hrustic hurt his team and the club, with that second stupid yellow card,” Buijs said.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Trent Sainsbury and Aziz Behich both sat on the bench as PSV Eindhoven defeated title rivals Ajax Amsterdam 3-0.

Dean Bouzanis and Denis Genreau both were unused subs as PEC Zwolle won 1-0 at Emmen.

Tom Rogic was dropped to the bench and not used as Celtic suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

Jimmy Jeggo debuted for Austria Vienna as he made his return following a two-month ankle injury in his side’s 3-0 home loss to James Holland’s LASK Linz in the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday.

Jeggo was a half-time sub for Austria Vienna, while Holland put in a full shift.

Danny Vukovic was beaten twice as Genk won 5-2 away to Cercle Brugge in the Belgian top flight on Sunday.

On Saturday in the English Premier League, Aaron Mooy put in a full shift as Huddersfield lost 3-1 to Leicester City, with two misguided passes leading to goals.

Mat Ryan was beaten by an emphatic Harry Kane penalty and a pinpoint Erik Lamela finish as Brighton lost 2-1 to Tottenham.

Back in Scotland on Saturday, Mark Milligan made his starting debut for Hibernian and impressed at centre-back in a 3-0 win over Dundee.

Hibs boss Neil Lennon said: “Milligan had an outstanding debut. My two centre-halves were excellent. Most teams would have struggled against us today.”
