Australian attacker Awer Mabil won a penalty in his first appearance for Midtjylland this season, while Jamie Maclaren scored in pre-season to boost his Darmstadt first-team hopes.

In Denmark’s Superliga on Saturday, Awer Mabil got a reprieve for Midtjylland after being left out of their opening three games of the season, starting in attack in their 3-1 win over Esbjerg.

Mabil had spoken about a possible move away from Midtjylland in the off-season but will be buoyed by his game-time, replaced after 76 minutes.

The ex-Adelaide United man played his part in the second goal, tripped by Lasha Parunashvili just inside the box after receiving a pass to win a penalty which was converted by Jakob Poulsen.

Mabil wasn’t the only Aussie in action in the game, with another ex-Adelaide forward Brent McGrath playing the final 15 minutes off the bench for Esbjerg.

In Belgium’s Divizion A on Sunday, Danny Vukovic was back and put in a full shift, keeping a clean sheet, as Genk won 4-0 at Lokeren.

In Serbia's Superliga on Sunday, Milos Degenek put in a full shift as Red Star Belgrade defeated Radnicki 2-0.

In Croatia’s Prva HNL on Friday, Anthony Kalik played a full game for Rudes in a 1-1 draw with champions Dinamo Zagreb. Kalik only joined Rudes on loan from Hajduk Split last week.

On Saturday, Fran Karacic put in a full shift for Lokomotiva in a 4-0 win over Inter Zapresic, who had Steve Lustica on the bench.

In the Czech First League on Friday, Golgol Mebrahtu was absent as Mlada Boleslav lost 4-0 to Sigma Olomouc, while Aleksandar Susnjar moved out on loan to Slovakian club MSK Zilina this week.

In Austria’s Bundesliga on Saturday, Jimmy Jeggo was absent as Austria Vienna defeated Wacker Innsbruck 2-1.

On Sunday, James Holland played a full game as LASK Linz lost 3-1 to Red Bull Salzburg.

In Scotland’s League Cup on Saturday, Jesse Curran played a full game as Dundee won 2-0 over Brechin City, while Andy Rose put in a full shift as Motherwell triumphed 3-0 at Clyde.

Elsewhere in Scotland, Ben Garuccio scored his maiden goal for new club Hearts in a 5-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Garuccio curled in a fine free-kick in the 32nd minute, before providing the assist for the second goal.

In Germany’s 3.Liga on Saturday, Kwame Yeboah debuted for new club Fortuna Koln in a 4-1 home loss to Preussen Munster. Yeboah put in a full shift.

In Japan’s J.League on Saturday, Mitch Langerak’s Nagoya Grampus and Mitch Duke’s Shimizu S-Pulse both had fixtures postponed while Andrew Nabbout is still out injured for Urawa Reds.

In Korea’s K-League on Saturday, Connor Chapman played 70 minutes as Pohang Steelers lost 2-1 at Sangju Sangmu, while James Donachie put in a full shift in Chunnam Dragons’ 3-1 home loss to Incheon United, who had Kwabena Appiah absent.

Finally in the club friendly action, Jamie Maclaren came off the bench in the 62nd minute before scoring 12 minutes later in Darmstadt’s 4-1 pre-season win over Roda JC.

The goal is a major boost to Maclaren’s first team hopes at Darmstadt, whom have told him they want him to stay at the club, despite the Socceroo wanting a move.

Darmstadt’s 2.Bundesliga campaign commences on Sunday at home to Paderborn.
