Socceroos Central: Nabbout goal & injury, Milligan exits

Danny Vukovic, Awer Mabil and Brad Jones all celebrated winning titles over the weekend while Andrew Nabbout got on the scoresheet in Japan before going off injured.

In the Belgian First Division A on Sunday, Danny Vukovic’s Genk lifted the title which they had mathematically already claimed on Thursday.

Vukovic kept a clean sheet as Genk drew 0-0 with Standard Liege on Sunday.

Genk had been crowned champions after their 1-1 draw at Anderlecht and Club Brugge’s 2-0 loss at Standard on Thursday.

In the Danish Cup on Friday, Awer Mabil played his part by converting a penalty in the decisive shootout as FC Midtjylland lifted the trophy over Brondby.

Midtjylland and Brondby had drawn 1-1 after 120 minutes, before Mabil’s side won 4-3 on penalties.

Mabil had been introduced in the 106th minute and scored Midtjylland’s fourth spotkick in the shootout.

In the Saudi Arabian Pro League on Friday, Brad Jones’ Al Nassr were crowned champions after a 2-1 win over Al Batin on the final day.

Jones and Osama Malik both played full games. Al Nassr won the title by one point from Milos Degenek’s Al Hilal.

Al Hilal defeated Al Shabab 3-2 on the final day with Degenek starting and playing 79 minutes.

In the Japanese J.League on Friday, Andrew Nabbout netted Urawa Reds’ second goal before losing 3-2 to Shonan Bellmare at home.

Nabbout scored in the 25th minute to make it 2-0 but had to be replaced before half-time.

The Australian found space down the middle to receive a pass from Quenten Martinus and shoot calmly into the bottom corner.

Elsewhere in Japan, Mitch Langerak put in a full shift as second-placed Nagoya Grampus claimed a 1-1 draw with Kawasaki Frontale.

In the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday, James Holland scored the winner as LASK Linz won 1-0 at St Polten.

Holland scored in the 67th minute before being replaced in the 88th minute as LASK qualified for the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round.

Jimmy Jeggo was sent off for a second bookable offence on the hour mark as Austria Vienna defeated Wolfsberger AC 2-0.

In the Cypriot First Division on Sunday, Apostolos Giannou netted as AEK Larnaca defeated Omonia Nicosia 2-1.

In the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, Mark Milligan started and played 64 minutes as Hibernian lost 2-1 at home to Aberdeen in his final appearance for the club.

Hibernian confirmed after the match that Milligan would be leaving, despite having one year remaining on his contract.
