    In England's Premier League, Socceroos veteran Brett Emerton played his farewell game for Blackburn. Emerton's final appearance for Blackburn was an unhappy one as they spurned two penalties before losing 1-0 to Tim Cahill's Everton.

    Emerton, who was made captain for the day, played a full game, while Cahill was a 54th-minute substitute for the Toffees and put in a busy shift up front, after being ill during the week.

    In England's Carling Cup on Wednesday, new Sydney FC signing Brett Emerton played a full game and provided an assist as Blackburn Rovers easily accounted for Sheffield Wednesday 3-1.

     

  • 15 August 2011 Emerton hamstrung -

    Emerton, who has 87 caps for Australia, was replaced at half-time due to hamstring tightness in Blackburn's 2-1 loss to Wolverhampton in England's Premier League on Saturday.

    The injury has cast doubts over his availability for the Socceroos' upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Thailand and Saudi Arabia, but Rovers boss Steve Kean was hopeful it wasn't too serious.

    "We were unfortunate as well because Brett Emerton had to come off with a hamstring. We'll assess that but hopefully it won't be too bad," Kean said after the loss.

    Brett Emerton last night captained the Socceroos in the absence of Lucas Neill. Emerton had a quiet night on the pitch with the All Whites Jeremy Brockie limiting his output down the right flank.

    Brett Emerton was today named in the Socceroos squad to face New Zealand and Serbia in Australia next month. Emerton will spearhead the squad along with Lucas Neill with many of the other European based stars being rested for the games.
