Now the Japan away seems to be sorted I've taken the liberty to start a thread for the last of the away qualifiers in Doha on 6 June 09.

Myself and Ant will be in Doha once again, are making this on the return leg of a 4 week European tour in May/ June...

Arrive in Doha from London on 3 June, fly out on 7 June, back in Sydney on 8th ready for the Bahrain game on the 10th...

At this stage we will be joined in Doha on the same dates by Heather

Flying with Etihad... all flights ex Cairns-London back via Abu Dhabi- Doha - Abu Dhabi - Sydney have come in at $2515 ea

The earliest that we can be mathematically certain of qualifying is with a win at home against Uzbekistan (in Sydney) on April Fools' Day next year. That, however, is assuming that we win in Yokohama. Should we drop 2 or 3 points away to Japan and then beat the Uzbeks in Sydney, a win in Qatar would indeed qualify us for South Africa.

Regardless of all this, I am definitely going to Doha next June. The only game that I have missed in the entire campaign so far is Bahrain away (and I'm filthy about that!). There is NO WAY that I will not be seeing every game from now on. Not sure if I'll be combining this with a UK visit yet.

Doha is once again a great opportunity to combine with trip to UK/Europe (e.g. tail end of club comps/finals) or my favourite Gulf region destination; Oman, whom we will be playing in Asian Cup qualifier away in Nov (part of a double header, home and away). For myself it will one of these two options, so yes will be there for Qatar away game.

I think Pablo works for the Oman Ministry of Tourism, he never shuts up about the place smiley

Just worked out that in between the Bahrain game in Sydnet and the Jap game in Melb, South Melbourne are playing Preston Lions.

So itll be 4 games in 12 days for me!!

My plan of attack is Air Asia X to KL and Qatari Airways to Doha.

Thai Airways and Qatar Airways usually have a cheapie which may come out in Feb... this was the one we used this June, about 17K return... hassle your local Flight Centre/ Harvey World etc to try and get the best deal... or have a look on www.bestflights.com.au and click on 'middle east' for the latest deals

EDIT: oops I meant 1.7K

There are already some good deals via the website cbead mentions at
http://www.bestflights.com.au/cgi-bin/214/flights?mainlist
including a great return airfare inc taxes on Etihad for June at around $1700 from Mel, Syd or Brisbane with stopver option in Singapore
plus many others (e.g. Qantas/Gulf and Thai/Gulf) via Asian hubs at around 2K
