As I've posted on SFC forum tonight.
Current plan is:
6th June - Rome/Frankfurt/Zurich to Dubai 7th June - Socceroos vs Iraq - Sharjah, 20km from Dubai. 8th June-11th - Dubai 12th or 13th June - Dubai to Doha 14th June - Socceroos vs Qatar - Doha 15th June - Fly to anywhere in Europe.
I will be updating this page as I check flight combos.
Note Emirates seems to be massively cheaper if you buy return combinations of flights that return you to the same destination.
Emirates Rome-Dubai-Doha-London 3,958.00 Euros - NO. Emirates Rome-Dubai-Doha-Dubai-Rome 821.16 Euros - NO Emirates London-Dubai-Doha-Dubai-London 412.30 Pounds (Approx $918) Emirates Paris-Dubai-Doha-Dubai-Paris 668.07 Euros (Approx $1,128) Emirates London-Dubai Return 326.80 Pounds (Approx $727) Emirates Dubai-Doha Return 1,480.00 UAE Dollars (approx $457) Emirates Rome-Dubai Return 671.27 Euros
British Airways London-Dubai Return 395 Pounds British Airways One-Way flights (London-Dubai, Doha-London) Off the chart expensive.
Qatar Airways London-Doha-Dubai-Doha-London 473.30 Pounds Qatar Airways Dubai-Doha Return 790.00 AED (Approx $245) Qatar Airways Rome-Doha-Dubai-Doha-Rome 531.65 Euros ($892) Qatar Airways Paris-Doha-Dubai-Doha-Paris 565.05 Euros ($948)
EDIT: Actually after checking prices I will be going from London on the 6th.

Air Arabia has daily flights from Sharjah to Doha, works about AUD$240. We will probably get an Aus (wherever the Iraq game is) - Dubai return ticket and use Air Arabia for the Qatar game... unless a round ticket with Doha stopover is cheaper

You can fly Air France or KLM from London to Dubai return for about $750. Obviously stopover in Paris or Amsterdam.

Is life insurance included in that price?

Airarabia is ok. Just.
The Middle East plebs all catch it, but it goes to destinations that others often dont. And it is always cheaper than Qatar and Emirates.
Dont trust the food though....

I've been checking online to see what Australians' Visa requirements are for both Qatar and the UAE.
The Emirates looks pretty straightforward: They issue a two week tourist visa on arrival which is free and can be extended if needed.
Qatar, on the other hand, actually charge for tourists to enter their country. They similarly issue a Visa on arrival but the price is 55 Qatari Riyals for this (the currency converter I used made this to be about A$17.50). If you want to try to confirm this with our

Sorry, didn't quite finish my sentence. If you want to check details with the Qatari embassy, we don't have one in Australia. The nearest one is in Jakarta! The information I found was on the website for the Qatari Embassy in Washington DC.

Quote from gwynne: I will be calling the FFA this week to try and make sure the games are locked in before booking. yeh, good idea Gwynne although it sounds like they are set - just some doubt about the home match vs Iraq and whether or not they will try to bring it forward by a couple of days
see that you post on the SFC Cove site - I'm a Cove fan too and pretty frustrated after our poor effort on Friday - also having some log in probs which some others but not all are also having
won't be making it to the Middle East games, but could be going to Kunming as the fares are pretty reasonable

Jeepers... have just been researching hotel prices in Doha, and most are from $200 AUD and above per night... best I've got is one for $137 which looks like a very very basic 3 star tourist hotel... there is a hostel there but from what I can gather it is men only.
You can get an OK hotel in Dubai for (just) less than $100..
We are planning on a side trip to Egypt... can get a 4 star hotel in Cairo for $60 !!

cbead do you have the results of your research to post? I'm waiting for a response from FFA who I emailed last week.
