Is there anybody living in Dubai already that is part of the GGArmy? If so do you know anything about the stadiums and what the situation is with The Iraqi team playing there?

Hi guys.
back on.
Went and saw Syria vs. the UAE the other week after seeing my home team Jordan play North Korea. Going for an Axis of Evil megabill.
I'll answer everyones Middle Eastern questions as best as i can. I'll be here every day or so if anyone ever has new ones as well.
Ok, I lived in the Emirates for just over a year, leaving last year to Jordan. So you can trust me on the local experience.
I believe the game is being played in Sharjah. I'll check where the stadium is, but i think i know where it is.
I would strongly recommend staying in Dubai. Both 'Emirates' are next to each other, the Dubai airport must be about 5 minutes from Sharjah border. Wherever the stadium is, its only a short cab ride from Dubai.
I say to stay there because there is a STRICT alcohol ban in Shrajah. PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY.
You will get thrown in the clink. They dont take well to our 'kind'. Dubai is fine, all your vices are there, clubs, hookers etc... Mind you, you dont want to be caught carrying around a beer in the street. But you'll be ok in Dubai.
Accommodation wise, there isnt a lot of low-mid range hotels. I would suggest looking in the Dubai Creek or Bur Dubai area for affordable accomodation. Will try and remember a name of a place i stayed at.
In June, its gonna be hot. hot hot hot. creeping into mid 40's. when staying, you'll want a place with a pool maybe. everywher is air-conditioned so thats cool. stadium obviously wont be. Wearing shorts is ok in Dubai, better to go 3/4 length pants is sharjah. not sure about shorts but you may find out.
any questions gimme a shout out.
I will definately try to get there, not guaranteed, work depends, but cn definately organise some places to hit the town etc.... for whoever is going.
anyone wants touist advice, just shout out.
Gibbo.

Thanks Gibbo...
Myself and my wife are doing a 3 day whirlwind trip of Jordan, arriving Amman June 8- down to Petra on 9th ( via Dead Sea), Petra on 10th, travel back to Amman that night, fly out to Cairo on 11th...
My question is, whats the best way to travel from Amman to Petra vis Dead Sea? Bus, mini Bus, hire a car ??

Hi Gibbo, and thanks for your "local" info etc
FIFA and AFC has game down for Dubai, and the Al-Rashid stadium is listed, but this yet to be confirmed by FFA
(its only been rumours it could be switched to Sharjar and even if that happened I understand its only a 30min taxi ride from Dubai - that right?)
I'm taking a side trip between games to coast near Muscat - any good tips for there inc must sees, accommodation etc etc? (I was going to book in at a resort right on water)
cheers
EDIT: just visited the Iraq Football Association website and its definitely set for Al-Rashid Stadium, Dubai on 7 June

hi cbead.
I would get a driver to take you down there. can either be organised wherever you are staying in Amman, or done through a hotel where youre staying in Petra. if none help you out, i can give you a number of a few drivers i use.
Cost each way is about $90 aus. bit extra for a detour for detour to dead sea. Hire cars are pricey here so better just to get someone to take you. thats what i do.
Dont drive. its scary.
any other questions, just gimme a shout out.
G.

Hi Pablo.
Al Rahid stadium eh. thats one of the local club's stadiums. dont think it would be that big either which is a worry. we may need to look at tickets before hand. wont be far from the action though. 30 min cab depending on traffic.
I'll go on record saying Muscat and Oman is the only place in the Gulf worth visiting. After all the local basturds you meet in the Emirates, the Omanis are like a breath of fresh air.
the 'state' of Musandam is beautiful if you can get up there. An eerie place with the fjords like nothern europe, its nice and cool up there. Theres a great 5 star hotel up there thats worth getting into. cant remember the name but theres only one there.
Muscat is a great arabic city. nice beaches for that part of the world. some really nice markets with great arabic wares. north of muscat, cant remember where, is where the persian rugs (not rhyming slang for drugs) are smuggled. Wont find any better quality or cheaper than anywhere in the world. worth considering.
bars and restaurant wise, stick to the main hotels for western fare. cant go wrong and it'll never be better anywhere else unless its arabic food.
hire a car and get driving there. extrodinary mountains as you head south west? from muscat towards the UAE city of Al Ain. great day trip. camel herders etc..... really friendly.
get on it and have fun

Hmm, I suppose we can compromise with the Sprite cans.
Beer by the dozen is good. Longnecks I hope/assume?
