An Italian, the A-League and a potential banana skin

With the major European leagues having a spell and a signing of a certain Italian, there’s no better time to preview Season 8 of the A-League and look ahead to Australia’s match next week against Jordan.

The local boys are in the midst of pre-season matches and heavy training load; punters are just as keen to see who will be taking the dunny seat home this season.

Italians across Australia have been rejoicing all week with one of the game’s greatest players, Alessandro Del Piero, signing for Sydney FC. You won’t be surprised by the influx of bets on the back of the biggest Football signing in Australia’s history, Sydney FC opened at $9 and they’ve now been backed right into $6.50, this is likely to shorten even further in the next month before it all kicks off.

Betstar is tipping Del Piero to score around 9 goals this season, what do you think? Over 8.5 goals $1.80 or if you think he’ll score under 8.5 goals grab the $2 on offer.

Some Betstar punters don’t believe the hype – for now, however a real mixed bag for the A-League winners market. Brisbane Roar $4.25 to do it again, Melbourne Victory $6 in Ange Postecoglu’s first season at the helm there and also money for Central Coast Mariners to finally break their dunny-seat duck $6.50. Perth Glory are tipped by many to go that one step further after just falling short to the Roar last season, $7 may be value but if you believe one punter – Adelaide at $10 will do it with Kosi settled in charge of the Reds for a second time.

Then there are the bolters, Wellington Phoenix at $12, Melbourne Heart at $15, Newcastle Jets at $17 and new boys Western Sydney Wanderers at $34. You cannot properly put a line through any of these teams just yet given the evenness of past seasons, and of course, the salary cap that’s in place to keep it even.

The mighty Socceroos resume their quest to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil mid-week in what could be a tricky one away to Jordan, Betstar will be live with Head to Head, line market and much more closer to the match on Wednesday, but for now you can back the Socceroos to book a spot at Brazil at $1.40 or if you think they’ll miss (booooooo!!!) you can get $3.00.
