Matildas Central: Fowler scores 2nd French goal

Mary Fowler came off the bench to score her second goal for Montpellier in the French Feminine Division 1 on Saturday.

Fowler was substituted on in the 82nd minute with the score at 2-1, before she scored her side’s third goal in Montpellier’s 3-1 win over Le Havre.

The talented young Matildas forward struck on 89 minutes, marking his first goal since early October.

Elsewhere, Laura Brock (nee Alleway) played a full game as struggling Guingamp claimed a significant 6-1 victory away to Issy on Saturday.

Ellie Carpenter put in a full shift as Olympique Lyon’s perfect start to the season came to an end with a 1-0 loss at Paris Saint Germain on Friday.

On Sunday, Beattie Goad played a full game in midfield as struggling SV Meppen claimed an important 2-1 win at SC Sand in the German Frauen Bundesliga.

Alex Chidiac got 15 minutes off the bench but wasn’t among the scorers as Atletico Madrid thrashed Deportivo Coruna 8-1 in the Spanish Primera Feminine Division on Sunday.

Aivi Luik played a full game as Sevilla drew 0-0 with Valencia on Saturday, while Jenna McCormick was absent as Real Betis went down 3-0 to Real Madrid on Friday.

Amy Harrison was a 90th minute substitute as PSV Eindhoven won 2-1 away to Natasha Brough’s AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Eredivisie Women on Friday.

Brough was an unused sub for AZ. Kyah Simon was absent for PSV.

Karly Roestbakken’s Lillestrom qualified for the Norwegian NM Cupen Women final after a 2-1 victory over Sandviken on Saturday. Roestbakken was an unused sub.

However, Clare Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry’s Avaldsnes missed out after losing 4-0 to Valerenga in their semi-final on Sunday.

Polkinghorne played a full game while Gorry was absent.

The final will be played on December 6, before the re-scheduled final round of Toppserien fixtures where the champion will be determined with Polkinghorne and Gorry still in the hunt.

Meanwhile on Sunday, Nikola Orgill was absent as Kolbotn won 5-0 over Medkila in the Norwegian relegation/promotion playoffs. The second leg is on Wednesday.
