Matildas skipper Sam Kerr provided two assists as Chelsea eased to a 5-0 victory away to Reading in the English Women’s Super League while West Ham confirmed a new deal for Emily van Egmond.

In the 16th minute, Sam Kerr glanced on a header into space from a hopeful ball forward, releasing Kirby who rounded the keeper to make it 1-0.

Kerr again provided the assist on the stroke of half-time, latching on to a deep free-kick on the byline and crossing for Kirby to head in for 3-0.

The Matildas captain was replaced in the 61st minute with her side up 4-0.

That was the only Women’s Super League game played this weekend, with the competition in crisis as the COVID-19 outbreak in the United Kingdom impacts clubs.

Manchester City’s game against Emily van Egmond’s West Ham United was postponed after several City players tested positive after contracting COVID-19 on a trip to Dubai for an awards ceremony.

There was also an unnamed positive case at Arsenal – home to Steph Catley, Caitlin Foord and Lydia Williams - forcing their game with Aston Villa to be postponed.

Elsewhere, West Ham United announced the permanent signing of Emily van Egmond, rewarding her good form on loan with a contract extension.

Van Egmond told West Ham TV: "It's great to stay here. I'm really enjoying my football here at West Ham too, and I'm excited to be working with the new manager."

In the Spanish Feminina Primera Division, matches were postponed including Aivi Luik’s Sevilla against Rayo Vallecano due to a major snowstorm in Spain.

There was also no action in the French Feminine Division 1 which will resume next weekend, including Ellie Carpenter’s Olympique Lyonnais who are in title contention.

The Italian Serie A Women will also resume next weekend with Alexandra Huynh and Jacynta Galabadaarachchi’s Napoli currently in bottom spot and battling relegation.
