Martin Boyle netted a 70th minute penalty as Hibernian started the new Scottish Premiership season with a 3-2 win away to Motherwell on Sunday.

With scores locked at 2-2, Boyle, who put in a full shift, stepped up to net the winner from the spot.

Boyle was crafty on the right side of the box in the lead-up to the penalty win, which came from a handball.

The Edinburgh Evening News rated Boyle 7/10 and wrote: "Not his most influential game but still offered enough of a threat going forward - and tucked away the winner from the penalty spot."

Tom Rogic was a 90th minute substitute as Ange Postecoglou's Celtic started the season with a 2-1 defeat at Hearts on Saturday.

Trent Sainsbury was an unused sub as Kortrijk won 1-0 away to Antwerp in the opening weekend of the Belgian First Division A season on Sunday.

Deni Juric started and played 71 minutes as Sibenik lost 1-0 at Hajduk Split in the Croatian Prva HNL. Doni Grdic was an unused sub.

Awer Mabil started and played 62 minutes as Danish champions FC Midtjylland won 2-0 away to Viborg in the Superliga on Saturday.

Both goals came after Mabil was replaced, although he was in the thick of the forward play beforehand.

Zach Duncan was an unused substitute as AGF lost 2-1 at home to Randers on Sunday.

Brandon Borrello started and played the first half as Dynamo Dresden drew 1-1 at Hamburg in the German 2.Bundesliga on Sunday.

Alex Grant played a full game as Pohang Steelers drew 1-1 at Daegu, while Harrison Delbridge was an 87th minute sub as Incheon United won 4-1 at Jeju.
